Brazil
The mission in Brazil was founded in 2015 by Father Alexios Seraphim in the city of Sorocaba, São Paulo. The parish, “Axion Estin”, (“It is Truly Meet”) Icon, was founded without any existing funds, but through much prayer and is dedicated to the Theotokos. In 2022, the Saint John of Shanghai community was also founded in Curitiba, Paraná. Here, Divine Services take place in a space provided by a parishioner.
The parish has a community library with books on spirituality and culture, a magazine with ecclesiastical activities and Lives of the Saints, and a YouTube channel - “Tradição Ortodoxa GOC.” The community also runs a hostelin Sorocaba, to accommodate pilgrims. The parish receives many visitors from various regions of Brazil, and from neighboring countries (monastics and laity from Argentina, Paraguay, etc.) as it is one of the only Old Calendar Churches in the region. Recently, land was purchased for the construction of a Church in Curitiba. Some of the needs that exist include funding for the Curitiba Church building, investments in the hostel (beds, furniture, etc.), funding for maintenance of the Sorocaba parish, and prayer.
